Yes, of course. There’s a very clearly defined line between the two in those terms. I have people that I cannot get close to due to ethics. I am not saying that everyone is fair game for friendship. I will treat everyone with dignity and politeness, though, regardless of their behaviour (good or bad). I cannot control their actions, but I can definitely control mine.
But there’s also people who are very quick to scream ‘homophobe’ or ‘racist’ without even trying to come into dialogue with the people they’re accusing, or cannot carry on a civil conversation becuase they automatically assume the worst or are not willing to hear what they have to say with an open mind, which is seriously troubling.
I have had some really meaningful conversations with people whose ideology I very vehemently opposed. However, if there’s a point at which I see a conversation going nowhere, I will cut it short, especially if it’s going into toxic territory.

A person who can befriend people of any political ideology is someone to avoid.

And they’re so smug about it too. That just means you stand for nothing. That’s nothing to be proud of.

There are two things going on here.  First, you put people into classifications of political ideology.  Generally this refers to a broad political label like Republican or Democrat.  About 15% of the electorate aligns with one party over the other based on their opinion on a Single Issue (labeling them as single issue voters, but still subscribers to one party or the other).   So, despite the fact that they vote Republican or Democrat based on their single super important issue they stand on, they could believe other things from other parties.  THIS does NOT mean that they “stand for nothing”.  It means they stand so so strongly for something that they are willing to look over other things. Regardless of whether this is right or not, that’s up to you.  But it is very dangerous to say that someone stands for nothing.


Secondly, you are participating in the divisive rhetoric that people are rising up against by pitting groups against each other.

THIS. Good Lord, people have lost the ability to disagree with each other civilly, and it ticks me off something fierce.

A note for those who have trouble measuring butter with a spoon as I do: one cup I am sixteen tablespoons. Butter/margarine bricks are usually a half a cup, so just cut one eighth of that amount 

These are really good! And yes, for the love of god, if you have it use white sugar and brown sugar, add just a pinch of salt, and as many chocolate chips as you darn well please. Great with icecream, whipped cream on top, or a tall glass of milk (keep in mind you gotta eat it with a spoon, you can’t dip it in milk)
